Access Bedford offers a range of BSL classes, from BSL Intro Workshops and Foundation courses, to Level 1 Qualifications and Deaf Awareness Training, online and face to face.
We have regular and seasonal activities across Bedfordshire which are open to everyone. We also run 'Deaf Space' - our drop in Guidance and Advice Service.
We are a small charity and we rely on donations, grant funding and our amazing volunteers to keep us going. Find out how you can get involved and support our work
Our story
Access Bedford started as an idea, back in 2013 when four Bedford Volunteers – Suzie Sampson, Catherine Wright, Alison Cook and Emma Sparrow – came together to run a pilot series of social and information events, to assess the need for Deaf community support in Bedford.
April 2014 – Access Bedford deaf group was formed on the strength of the pilot sessions, to bring together the D/deaf Community to socialise and work with services to be more D/deaf aware.
July 2015 – We officially became a charity, in response to the clear need for continued support to empower the Deaf community in Bedford and to break down barriers to access.
Today we are a strong, driven, community focussed charity, focussed on making a difference to people’s lives and making Bedford a better place to live, work and thrive for our Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
