Access Bedford offers Free BSL Tasters, BSL Foundation Courses, Level 1 Qualifications and Deaf Awareness Training.
We also support individuals and organisations to work with Fully Qualified BSL interpreters.

We offer bespoke Deaf Awareness training at your place of work, at an agreed venue, or online.

INTRO TO BSL WORKSHOP

This workshop will give you a basic understanding of what British Sign Language is and who uses it. Designed and delivered by our Deaf tutors, this 2-hour sessions covers the history of the language in the UK and will teach you some basic greetings and conversational signs.

BSL FOUNDATION COURSE

Our unique BSL Foundation Course is designed and delivered by our Deaf Tutors. It is suitable for anyone interested in BSL, from absolute beginners to Level 1 students wanting a refresher. Parents/carers of deaf children and anyone with progressive hearing loss is especially welcome and will be prioritised when allocating spaces for this popular course.

BSL Interpreters

We have a network of fully qualified, registered BSL Interpreters that we work with to support our community at a number of events, from optician and healthcare appointments to community events and meetings. If you are looking for a reliable and experienced interpreter and need help navigating the booking process, get in touch.

English – BSL Translation

If you have videos, letter, surveys or Social Media content that you would like to share with the Deaf community, we can translate from English to BSL with Substitles.

Family Signing Classes – COMING SOON

If you are the family/primary carers for a deaf child, and would like to learn to sign together, as a family, we offer FREE face to face classes. 

Places are limited, so please contact the office if you would like to join the next block of classes.

Access Bedford is run by a group of volunteers – the 2023/24 Committee is made up of 3 Trustees and 7 Committee Members, supported by an Admin Officer, who coordinate a range of events and activities across Bedford Borough to improve access for the D/deaf community every day.
